NORDICS IN SILICON VALLEY

A Nordic delegation of entrepreneurs, investors and community builders was brought to San Francisco to promote the Nordic startup scene and some of the most prominent startups of the region to US investors, media and industry professionals. Furthermore, the aim was to strengthen the ties between investors and startup community leaders in the Nordics.

Under the #NordicMade umbrella, a consortium of Nordic tech and startup community leaders brought 15 Nordic startups, three from each Nordic country, to San Francisco in April 2017. Day one started with a visit to Stripe HQ, and commenced with a high-level event at an event space called Upload Collective. The project partners all invited their network of venture capitalists, angels, industry experts, and Nordic startup stars in the valley. Around 165 guests showed up, including startup media. The 15 startups pitched their ideas for attendees, followed by an interesting fireside chat with venture capital investor Joel Eriksson about investing in the Nordics and how to hack Silicon Valley as a Nordic entrepreneur. All attendees received a copy of the latest release of the #NordicMade magazine, featuring the 15 founder stories and detailed overviews of the startup ecosystem in each of the five Nordic countries.

THE IDEA

One of the main challenges facing Nordic startups looking to expand their operations overseas is to meet relevant investors and find decision makers. With #NordicMade Showcase we want to leverage our personal network and organise a networking opportunity and match-making between Nordic startups and selected US investors, media contacts as well as possible customers and mentors.

The main goal being to promote the Nordic startup scene and some of the most prominent startups of the region to US investors, media and industry professionals. Furthermore, to strengthen the ties between investors and startup community leaders in the Nordics.

THE NORDICMADE MAGAZINE

Prior to the trip, the startup community leaders published the #Nordicmade magazine. The magazine features interesting stories about the startups that joined the trips as well as the Nordic startup community.
